Artist Statement

The work begins with a monochromatic ground upon which fragmented transparent shapes and lines appear as accumulations of light. The thin layers of the abraded ground color filter down to the substrates allowing light to pass through. Transparent shapes, dashes and curves repeat and transpose while defying pattern and definition. Shapes are created one at a time, each one calling forth the next similar or dissonant form, as the surface is gradually mapped. Each shape contains its individual information, naturally resisting replication. The shapes accumulate and scatter creating a myriad of tonal variations. The painting becomes a blueprint of its evolution, recording movement, fusion and luminous forms.
